Developed and manufactured in Germany by Molitor GmbH, the USO has been a trusted solution for cultural institutions worldwide for over 15 years, with many of the earliest devices still in daily operation today.
The handset features a compact, ergonomic casing made of durable PVC plastic that sits comfortably in the hand and is highly resistant to impacts and breakage. A strong magnetic mount holds the handset securely on its base, allowing visitors to pick it up from any direction and return it effortlessly — even if placed inaccurately, the magnet guides it back into position.
Audio playback starts automatically when the handset is lifted from its base, thanks to an integrated reed contact sensor. When placed back, playback stops immediately. This intuitive interaction requires no instructions, making it ideal for self-guided visitor experiences. An optional button or rocker switch can be integrated into the casing, enabling visitors to switch between two languages or select different audio tracks — labelled with engravings or stickers for easy identification.
The USO connects via a 240 cm flexible cable with a stainless-steel protective tube (125 cm), ensuring durability in high-traffic environments while allowing comfortable use at varying heights. An installation height of at least 130 cm is recommended.
