Andrea Fraser – Art Must Hang at Zachęta National Gallery of Art
Technical Design and Multimedia Installation
In March 2025, the Zachęta National Gallery of Art in Warsaw opened the exhibition “Andrea Fraser. Art Must Hang,”a comprehensive presentation of the work of one of the most influential figures in contemporary institutional critique. Our team was proud to contribute to this project by delivering the complete technical design and full-scale installation of the multimedia systems, supporting the curatorial vision with a tailored audiovisual infrastructure.

Scope of Work
Our role involved designing and integrating a unified multimedia environment capable of presenting works in a wide range of formats – from video performances and sound installations to synchronized multimedia projections. The scope of our work included:
• Technical system design – selecting appropriate equipment, creating installation plans, and ensuring compatibility between a variety of AV signal standards.
• Equipment installation and configuration – mounting projectors, monitors, audio systems, and media players across multiple gallery spaces.
• Integration of analog and digital technologies – balancing historical authenticity with contemporary performance requirements.
Equipment Used
The exhibition required a broad mix of technologies, from legacy CRT monitors to cutting-edge digital projectors. This hybrid approach preserved the original character of certain works while delivering reliability and visual clarity across the show. Selected devices included:
• Projectors and Displays:
- Optoma X340UST – ultra short-throw projector for close-range wall projections.
- Panasonic PT-DX610K and Panasonic PT-RZ570B – high-brightness projectors suitable for large-scale installation.
- Optoma ZU720TST – high-resolution laser projector ideal for permanent setups.
- Samsung MD32B and Samsung QM50C – commercial-grade LCD monitors known for durability and image fidelity.
• Media Players and Controllers:
- BrightSign HD1022 and BrightSign XD235 – reliable solid-state players with advanced scheduling, interactivity, and synchronization features.
• Analog Devices:
- Hantarex MGG28 – classic CRT monitor used to authentically present media artworks from the 1980s and ’90s.
• Audio Systems:
- Fohhn AT-05 – compact passive loudspeakers delivering clear, accurate sound, especially effective in projection and audio installation zones.
Result
The result is a technically coherent and atmospherically rich exhibition, where multimedia technology enhances the experience without overshadowing the artworks themselves. By integrating legacy analog equipment with modern digital solutions, we created an environment that respects the original context of the works while ensuring performance and reliability throughout the exhibition’s duration.
