Katarzyna Krakowiak-Bałka – Keeping flowers alive. Acoustic ikebana
In her sound installation presented at Tokyo’s Sogetsu Plaza, Katarzyna Krakowiak-Bałka employed modern audio technologies that allowed her to realize a unique vision of a sound-based ikebana. Through carefully selected technologies and tools, the installation became a multidimensional experience that engaged viewers on both auditory and spatial levels.
To achieve this concept, the artist used a range of advanced technological solutions:
- Contact speakers and microphones, which captured subtle sounds emanating from objects and surfaces, enriching the installation with unique acoustic textures.
- Hydrophones, enabling the recording of underwater sounds, introducing an additional organic element to the work, blending the elements of sound and water.
- Sound processing techniques, allowing real-time manipulation and transformation of sounds, creating dynamic and ever-changing compositions.
The installation was not only a technical achievement but also a deep artistic reflection on the interaction of sound with space, nature, and the body. Through the careful selection of technology, Krakowiak-Bałka created an environment where sound became a living, almost physical presence, immersing viewers in an interactive, sensory journey.
